Things you need to grow Lettuce Microgreens

  1. 10g Lettuce seeds
  2. 10 x 20 Microgreens tray x 2 - without holes (watering tray and blackout dome tray)
  3. 10 x 20 Microgreens tray x 1 - with holes (planting tray
  4. Coco coir
  5. Grow lights (or sunlight)

Steps to grow Lettuce Microgreens

  1. Fill the planting tray (with holes) with coco coir to the top of the tray.
  2. Spread the Lettuce seeds as evenly as possible.
  3. Mist water some water to moist the seeds and the soil.
  4. Gently press the seeds to the soil using any flat material.
  5. Stack another 10x20 tray on top for the first 3 Days. Press gently to settle the tray and push the seeds to the soil. No need to add any extra weight on the tray.
  6. On Day 2, most seeds will be germinated.
  7. On day 4, keep the 10x20 tray flipped on top like a Blackout Dome for the next 3 days so the microgreens can stretch looking for light a little bit more.
  8. On day 7, introduce the Lettuce microgreens to light. From now on, water via the bottom tray.
  9. You can harvest from day 8 up to until day 20, depending on your need.

Tips on growing Lettuce microgreens

  • One of the famous varieties of Lettuce microgreens is the Ruby Red.
  • If you don’t have a 10x20 seed tray, you could use any container you like.
  • If you are planning on using soil as the growth medium and it has sticks or clumps, make sure to get rid of the big ones.
  • If you do not have grow lights, you can use the natural sunlight to grow your Lettuce microgreens. Just make sure they get enough light by placing them in a sunny windowsill or a south facing window.

Harvesting Lettuce Microgreens

Lettuce microgreens start germinating from the first day itself, and are ready for harvest from day 8 up to day 20. You can keep growing for 20 days.

A typical Lettuce microgreens harvest is expected to be 20x times the weight of the seed. For example, if you use 10g of Lettuce seeds, you can expect a harvest of about 200g
